On Wednesday, 14th October, the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the “Heartbeat Trail” took place. The long-awaited starting shot for the bike route, which will in future lead from Beatenberg to Beatenbucht, was realized.
The idea for the trail has been around for a long time. It was discussed for the first time in 2002! However, the planning was marked by many setbacks and plan changes. After Niederhornbahn AG withdrew completely from the matter in summer 2019, the project was on the verge of failure. However, a new sponsor was found with the Bikepark Thunersee and Beatenberg Tourism association. The Bikepark Thunersee association is primarily responsible for operation, maintenance and safety. Beatenberg Tourismus is responsible for communication and is the contact person for landowners and bikers. The bike trail receives active financial support from various companies such as Rexhepi AG or Flying Metal GmbH from Thun, AEK Thun, Zimmermann AG Hoch- und Tiefbau Beatenberg and many private donors, such as second home owners, and the communities of Sigriswil and Beatenberg and tourism associations help with it the project can go into construction as soon as possible. The figurehead is the marketing and project manager Jérôme Hunziker. He is also happy that the Heartbeat Trail can finally move on to the implementation phase. “We are planning an offer for sporty people with bike experience. When skiing, one would speak of a red slope here. In the main line, the trail should be kept as simple as possible, but with multiple increased technical requirements ”, says Jérôme Hunziker. The construction time is calculated at around eight weeks and it is hoped to be able to complete the shell of the route before the onset of winter. Flying Metal GmbH from Thun has been commissioned with the construction. The opening is scheduled for spring 2021.
